A revista Nintendo Dream publicou mais imagens de Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days para o Nintendo DS que está previsto o final do ano de 2008 no Japão.
358/2 Days está sendo desenvolvido pela h.a.n.d. (Chocobo Tales) e supervisionado pela Square Enix, a equipe de desenvolvimento pretende mater a jogabilidadedos jogos anteriores da série, RPG com muita ação, mas afirmou que o número de botões do Nintendo DS pode ser um problema. Para manter a jogabilidade ainda está confirmado se algumas das funções do DS serão utilizadas, como touch screen e caneta stylus por exemplo. Fora isso a equipe planeja incorporar uma jogabilidade diferente para cada mundo.
O título do jogo, 358/2 Days, é um código, o qual Nomura (Diretor: FFV-VIII, X, FFVII Avent Children, Kingdom Hearts) afirmou que será compreendido no final do jogo. A palavra Days (dias) parece ser uma referência para a vida diária da Organization XIII que o jogo mostrará. 358/2 Days irá apresentar a jogabilidade típica dos jogos anteriores, no estilo RPG de acção. Sendo assim, é muito provável que a touch screen não seja muito utilizada.
O enredo de 358/2 Days é centrado na história de Roxas, durante o período em participava da Organization XIII, durante o ano em que Sora esteve adormercido, entre os jogos Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories e Kingdom Hearts II. O prólogo do jogo se inicia com a criação de Roxas, mas a parte jogável começa quando entra para a Organization XIII.
O jogo irá apresentar gráficos 3D, além de modos de jogo single-player e multiplayer. O modo single-player será baseado na história principal e irá progredir em dias. Neste modo, controlamos Roxas acompanhado de outros membros da Organization XIII. Sobre o modo multiplayer, foi revelado uma opção cooperativa, em que os jogadores trabalham juntos para completar um objetivo, além do uso da inteligência artificial para controlar alguns dos parceiros. O modo multiplayer ocorre separadamente da história principal e incluirá também um modo competitivo de jogo, em que os jogadores batalham entre si. No multiplayer poderão jogar até quatro pessoas simultaneamente, cada uma controlando um dos membros da Organization XIII (Axel, Saix e Xigbar), que possuem diferentes armas e habilidades individuais. O jogo terá também um sistema de missões, onde cada personagem terá de cumprir com as suas.
Como de costume em jogos da série, 358/2 Days irá apresentar várias personagens da Disney. As personagens já confirmadas incluem King Mickey, Riku, Roxas e outros membros da Organization XIII, incluindo um novo membro. Esse novo membro, Zion, é do sexo feminino e terá um papel muito importante na história do jogo.
